1Ocean Charters runs shared tours and private charters around Nassau, Bahamas: swimming pigs, sea turtles and snorkelling, hosted by a captain with a lifetime on these waters. In a market crowded with commoditised, OTA-listed tours, we designed and built a website that establishes a premium, owner-operated brand, presents two very different products with clarity, and makes booking direct as easy as sending a message.

1Ocean Charters is a locally owned, owner-operated Bahamian company based in Nassau Harbour, hosting unhurried days on the water aboard a spacious 45-foot power catamaran. It’s led by Captain Locksley Forbes: born on Long Island, The Bahamas, where his grandfather built boats, on the water by the age of three, with more than thirty years navigating these waters and the wider Caribbean.
That’s a genuinely premium, personal experience. The problem is that online, it looks the same as every packed “booze cruise” and cattle-boat tour competing for the same Nassau search. The brief was to build a website that makes the difference obvious (hosted, not herded), presents an affordable shared tour and a five-figure private charter without confusing either buyer, and wins the direct booking from travellers who’d otherwise default to the cheapest listing on a marketplace.

A premium, owner-operated experience competing in one of travel’s most commoditised categories, with four distinct problems to solve.
“Nassau boat tour” returns a wall of near-identical listings, mostly through OTAs competing on price. A better experience means nothing if it looks the same online.
A $165 shared tour is an impulse booking; a $5,000–$7,000 private charter is a considered purchase. One website has to serve both without diluting either.
Cruise passengers and visitors often decide within days of arriving, on a phone. The path from landing on the site to booking has to be immediate.
Handing your family to a stranger’s boat for a day is a real leap of faith. Safety, experience and credibility have to be visible before anyone books.
We set the outcomes first. Every design and content decision on the site traces back to one of these four goals.
A commodity competes on price; a brand competes on everything else. We built the site to lead with what a marketplace listing can never convey (a named captain, a spacious vessel and a genuinely unhurried day) on four strategic pillars.
“Hosted, not herded” as the through-line.
Different buyers, different journeys.
Credibility a listing can’t carry.
Meet travellers where they already are.
The central UX task was to serve two buyers whose decisions have almost nothing in common. Putting them on equal footing (or forcing them down one journey) would weaken both. Instead, the architecture presents a single clear choice, then splits into two purpose-built paths.
| Shared Half-Day Tour Most popular | Private Charter | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $165 per person | From $5,000 (half day) / $7,000 (full day) |
| Buyer | Couples, families, solo travellers, cruise guests | Groups, celebrations, corporate and bridal parties |
| Decision type | Impulse, price-led, book now | Considered, high-value, enquiry-led |
| The boat | Shared with other guests | Exclusive to your group |
| Route | Set highlights route | Fully customisable with the captain |
| Primary action | Book this experience | Enquire about a date |
A price-first card, clear inclusions and a book-now action turn curiosity into a confirmed seat with the fewest possible steps.
Exclusivity leads, price supports. The goal is a conversation, so the journey opens a personal, low-pressure line to the captain.
Most Nassau tour sites reach for saturated turquoise and stock clip-art. We went the other way: a deep navy and warm gold palette, an editorial serif, and a compass-rose motif that signals seamanship and premium hospitality: closer to a yacht brand than a booth on the dock.
Navy conveys depth, trust and the open ocean at dusk; gold adds warmth and a premium, hosted feel. Ivory keeps long content calm and readable.
A high-contrast serif gives headlines a refined, hospitality feel; a light geometric sans keeps the rest airy and contemporary, never brochure-heavy.
Travellers don’t search the brand; they search the experience: swimming pigs tours near Nassau, private catamaran charter Bahamas, snorkelling at Rose Island. The content is built around those intents and the real places behind them, so the site is legible to both search engines and the AI systems increasingly answering travel questions directly.
Rose Island, Athol Island and Nassau Harbour are named and explained, anchoring the site to the specific, high-intent searches that convert.
Dedicated pages for each experience, plus a comparison, capture both the “which tour” and “private charter” branches of demand.
LocalBusiness, TouristTrip and FAQ schema with real offers and prices make the business and its tours legible to search from launch.
A high-converting boat charter website separates a premium operator from commoditised tours, presents each experience with clear pricing, duration and inclusions, makes safety and experience credentials visible, and offers a booking path that matches how travellers actually decide: an instant booking for shared tours and a personal enquiry for private charters.
1Ocean Charters is that pattern in practice: a captain-led story that a marketplace can’t replicate, three clearly differentiated experiences, a persistent trust strip, and a WhatsApp-first booking channel that suits same-week and cruise-guest decisions.
Give travellers what an OTA listing can’t: the operator’s own story, the quality of the vessel and host, transparent inclusions, and a fast, personal way to book. A direct-booking website that communicates a premium, owner-operated experience can win the traveller who would otherwise pick the cheapest generic tour, and keep the margin that would have gone to commission.
A navy, compass-rose hero that positions the brand above the market in the first second.
Shared, private half-day and private full-day, each with price, duration and inclusions.
A clear table that helps every traveller pick the right experience with confidence.
A dedicated narrative that turns experience and heritage into a genuine reason to book.
Experience, $1M cover, full safety gear and satellite tracking, visible throughout.
A one-tap, always-present booking channel suited to mobile and cruise-guest timing.
With a short decision window and a mostly mobile audience, conversion is about removing every unnecessary step. The site keeps a booking or a message always within reach and answers objections before they become reasons to leave.
A premium hero signals this isn’t a packed cattle-boat tour.
Three clear experiences and a comparison let travellers self-select fast.
Captain, insurance and safety credentials remove the risk of committing.
Book the shared tour, or message on WhatsApp for private dates.
An always-visible “Book on WhatsApp” meets travellers on the channel they already use, ideal for quick, same-week decisions.
Swimming, children, weather, wildlife and meeting points are answered plainly, clearing the doubts that stall a booking.
Clear departure information and an offer to help plan timing make the site usable for visitors arriving by ship.
As a new build, impact is described in terms of what the website is designed to do: the strategic gains it’s engineered to produce, ready to be confirmed with post-launch data.
A nautical, editorial design that reads as high-end at a glance.
An instant-booking path for shared tours, an enquiry path for private charters.
Story, credentials and a persistent safety strip built into the experience.
A direct, low-friction channel suited to mobile and cruise-guest decisions.
Place-based content and rich structured data from launch.
The brand no longer looks like every other Nassau listing.
Each traveller lands on the right experience for their group and budget.
Visible trust removes the hesitation around an on-water day.
Direct bookings keep margin out of OTA commissions.
Place-based content targets the searches that actually convert.
1Ocean draws on the disciplines we bring to every experience-led travel and hospitality build.
